Major Cities

For some reason, most archeological sites are associated with extreme heat and sand hills.

A tour of Raipur can change this notion.  This is because the area is considered the rice bowl of India, and it follows that farmlands have fresh air.  This type of air keeps the temperatures of the land quite low, although summers in Raipur can definitely heat up.

Spend the night in Siliguri for great meals, great shopping and great scenery.

Siliguri is an important transport hub in the north of west Bengal state.  The city itself is usually overlooked or only used as an overnight stay on the way to other cities and states.

Ranchi was once the summer capital of Bihar now the capital of Jharkhand…but always a winner.

Marginally cooler than the plains surrounding it, Ranchi is set on a plateau at about 700m above sea level.  There are some absolutely stunning waterfalls in the area and along with Betla National park they give you a great reason to visit Ranchi.

Rapid expansion, stunning green belts and wide avenues make for a different composition in Bhubaneswar.

Like Orissa, Bhubaneswar is known for its architecture and ancient temples, the destination of many pilgrims especially from Hindu and Buddhism religions.  Bhubaneswar is a noisy hectic and congested city with some bright highlights.  The old city’s spiritual center is around the Bindu Sagar. Once a place where thousands of temples stood there are only 50 stone temples remained.

Known for being both devastatingly beautiful and devastatingly squalid Kolkata is the home of extremities.

No space is wasted here in Kolkata.  The streets teem with life in India’s second biggest city. Locally Kolkata is regarded as an intellectual and cultural capital, and you would be hard pressed to find someone from West Bengal who is not infuriated by the one sided depiction of the poverty and disparity of the Kolkata slums.
