Set as a state in central India, Chhattisgarh was formed from the sixteen south eastern districts of Madhya Pradesh with the distinction of all speaking Chhattisgarhi were melded together and gained statehood on 1 November 2000. Chhattisgarh borders Madhya Pradesh to the northwest, Maharashtra to the west, Andhra Pradesh to the south, Orissa to the east, Jharkhand on the northeast and Uttar Pradesh to the north. Chhattisgarh is a primarily a rural state with only 20% of population residing in urban areas. |
