History of Chamba

Tourism in Chamba

Chamba is not a large town, and its valley is not the material of legends. Although this is nothing more than a small place situated on a plateau in Himachal Pradesh, it is definitely a place to visit. Set this place on your travel itinerary and let the tranquillity of this place help you have the tour of your dreams.

Apart from just enjoying nature in all her glory, there are various tourist spots in which you can revel. One such spot is the Bhuri Singh Museum, which has its founding in the year 1908. It has been named after the king who founded it – Raja Bhuri Singh, and is a perfect place to visit for those who would like to delve into history a bit.

The Rang Mahal is also a place worth visiting. It dates back to the 18th century and is also generally referred to as the “Painted Palace”. The royal women of Chamba used this palace as their home in the days of old. A visit to this place will leave you in awe of its architectural beauty. There is the influence of the Mughals as well as that of colonialists in the style of architecture used here.

Get in touch with your spiritual side at Chamba & Chamba Valley by stopping off at the two temples of note here – the Champavati Temple and the Chamunda Devi temple. The Champavati Temple is a spot for pilgrimage and is named, again, after Champavati, after whom Chamba is named. The Chamunda Devi Temple is also a pilgrimage spot and is located on the banks of the Baner river. This lies around 15 kilometers from Dharamsala and draws a large number of visitors annually, both, from India and around the world.

Apart from these tourist attractions, you can also take time to travel into the valley and revel in the delights of bubbling, meandering rivers and hills painted with colour. You can also take a trek along the mountains and enjoy the delights of nature.
