History of Kalpa

Based on the literature available it is known that Kalpa was a part of the erstwhile princely state of Bushair. The rulers originally ruled from the village of Kamru. Later years saw them migrate to Sarahan and then to Rampur situated on the banks of the river Sutlej. During the early nineteenth century the Gurkhas from neighbouring Nepal captured large parts of Himachal Pradesh including the princely state of Bushair. Later under the British rule, the Gurkhas were forced to retreat. This also resulted in the signing of the Sagauli treaty in 1815-16 which saw many of the original rulers handed back their kingdoms. Thus the British further strengthened their position in this region.

Post independence of India in 1947, a separate state of Himachal Pradesh was carved out in 1972 resulting in an end to the geographical isolation this region had witnessed for centuries.
