Kaza – Travel to Kaza - Tour To Kaza
Himalaya goat, India

Kaza is a tiny hill station in Himachal Pradesh that attracts the tourists for its mild climate and sporting activities.

Kaza is the administrative headquarters of the Spiti district and remains busy throughout the year. This is an excellent tourist spot for its spectacular scenery owing to the high mountain ranges surrounding it. The city has a climate similar to the cold deserts of Tibet and Ladakh in the Himalayan region.

City of Kaza

The city of Kaza is located along the banks of the river Spiti lying on the Kunzam range. The Spiti river is the main water source here and is fed by several streams like Pin, Chiomo, Thumpa Lumpa, Kaza amongst many others. The city has two access points such as Kinnaur valley and the Lahaul valley. Kaza is divided into the old and new sections. The new town contains the administrative buildings. Kaza was ruled by many invaders and was a part of East India Company in 1846.

Tourism in Kazza

Kaza hill station is engulfed by high mountain ridges from all sides. This picturesque landscape of the rugged mountains is definitely a must see for tourists. Though it has scanty vegetation and thick snow everywhere, the Spiti valley is flooded with tourists all through the year.

Spiti (Piti) looks like a living museum because of the availability of fossils of marine life. Kibber, Kaza & Kye villages are the most famous tourist sites for fossils. Fossils are found on either side of Kang-yur and Paapen-yu nullahs near these villages. Little wonder that Rudyard Kipling termed it as a ‘world within a world’.

Tourists find April to October as the best months to visit Kaza since during this time the region experiences minimum snowfall.

Visitors can also explore other tourist spots such as the monasteries like Sakya Tangyud, Dhankar, Tabo, Mud, Hikkim, Ki and Kye. The Ki Monastery is the oldest one and is about 12 kms from the valley. The Tabo Monastery is said to be 1000 years old and depicts a treasure house of Tibetan art and culture.

The Kyu-ling fort creates a great opportunity to view the picturesque hill town from the south. The Kunzam Pass is like a gateway to the Spiti valley and provides an enthralling experience to a traveler whilst Kibber is the highest village in the world at a height of 4270 m.

Kaza is also an ideal spot for adventure sports like trekking, mountaineering and skiing. If you enjoy white water rafting then you may want to raft from Koksar right upto Tandi. There are also several camping sites in places such as Sarachu, Darcha, Tandi and Koksar

A tour to the nearby Chander Tal Lake is also a nice experience for the visitors.

So if you are on a trip to Himachal Pradesh, then a vacation in Kaza vacation is a must!
