The antique town of Naggar is one of the most unusual and spiritual tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh, North India. The highest glaciers peaks in Himalaya can be seen up to 8000 m altitude and the Chanderkhani pass close by (2660 mt). In summer, you could find vegetation up to 3000 meters, and the sightseeing is absolutely astonishing.

History of Naggar

Naggar was the capital of Kullu Rajas in the 14^th century. It was founded by Kullu Rajas and remained the capital of this state until Raja Jagat Singh moved it o Sultanpur.  

Tourism in Naggar

A complete package tour could include the Naggar Castle, the Temple of Naggar Village and the Roetrich Art gallery. If you visit during April, you can attend the Naggar Fairs Festival as a tourist. Don’t forget about adventure sports such as gliding and white river rafting. Buy handmade items made by locals and take them as presents for your friends. Shawls, socks and pattu are the most interesting items, but you could also find some other interesting products.

The Naggar Castle was built in the 16^th Century and it was used as the King’s residence. It was transformed in the state’s military and political centre during the 16^th century. The most important attraction in this castle is the small wooden Jagati Patt temple. The castle also provides a magnificent view over the Kullu valley and also a lesson of Indian history for any interested tourist.

The Gauri Shankar Temple is another location that should be a part of your itinerary. It is the last historical evidence of the great Gurjara dynasty. Rich stone and wood carvings can also be found in other temples such as Tripura Sundri Devi, Tripura Sundari and the temple of Lord Krishna.

The former residence of Professor Nicholas Roerich was transformed into art gallery that  is worth visiting. The professor came to India in 1929 and he remained there until he died. His beautiful paintings and writings can be found there, and the guides will give you another history lesson that you will remember for the rest of your life.
