History of Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh has its origins from days of old, but was brought to the fore during the Ahom Chutia war, when it was used as an encampment by the Ahom Dynasty. After the war, it was used as the Lakhimpur district’s headquarters. Finally, in 1971, it became an independent district by itself, and it remains so to this day.

Tourism in Dibrugarh

There are a number of tourist destinations in Dibrugarh which will delight your senses and help you feel at peace with your inner self. National parks, reserved forests, tea plantations, old buildings – these are just ready to be explored. The Namdapha National Park is the largest in Arunachal Pradesh and is a protected area. It is home to a large number of species of wildlife, especially the leopard, clouded leopard, tiger and snow leopard.

Going on further on your travel, you will come to the Joypore Reserved Forest, which is India’s last remaining Tropical Rainforest. There are many species of flora and fauna and you will enjoy a trip through this place.

If you like history, you can explore four airfields that are in the Dibrugarh area. These were used during World War II to launch an attack against the Japanese, by the British in India.

There a number of tea factories and tea plantations that surround Dibrugarh. There are tours available around them and you will be able to enjoy picturesque views of the surrounding regions from here. You can also take a cruise down the Brahmaputra river to enjoy nature in all its glory.

The Chang bungalows at Dibrugarh were built when the British started tea plantations in this area. These were built in the mid nineteenth century and still live on. The bungalows are raised on stilts so as to allow cool breezes to blow below it. These stilts also keep animals out and do not allow water to enter the houses. There is at least one bungalow per tea garden, and you will enjoy taking a tour around them, through this delightful tourist spot in India.
