Chandigarh is a union territory, known for its architecture.  The modern architect Le Corbusier radically designed Chandigarh which often polarizes critics, there is something to dislike for all critics here, whether it be the broad tree lined avenues and sense of order or just its distinct lack of “flashiness” compared with much of India’s urban centers.

Situated near the foothills of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas in Northwest India Chandigarh is a stunning town, renowned for the beauty of its surroundings as well as the controversial architecture that can be found here.  Enjoying a sub-tropical climate is just another of the perks for anyone travelling to this area.

Much of Chandigarh is covered in dense forests, eucalyptus and banyan plantations abound. And the forests that surround the city itself support a brilliant sphere of different flora and fauna. The forests here cover close to 30% of the land area.  Sukhna Lake hosts a wide variety of ducks and geese and as well as this attracts several migratory birds from as far away as parts of Siberia and Japan in the winter season.

Urban Planning in Chandigarh

Planned as a sort of Living organism the city itself is a rare case where modernisation and naturalisation have come together and worked out well.  The preservation here of the natural landscape has worked well in the cities favour, especially when you compare it to some of India’s more smog ridden towns and cities. So it is no wonder that the city is sometimes referred to as the “City Beautiful”.

The territory has 3,047 hectares of cultivable land of which the irrigated area is about 2,740 ha; this land is slowly being eaten away into the expanse of the city which is unfortunate. Wheat, maize, and paddy are the major crops here and a major part of the economy.

Brilliant people in Chandigarh

The people found in Chandigarh are known for being full of life and having a less strict mindset.  As an example it is said that the people of Chandigarh are often setting fashionable trends for the rest of India.  They are highly influenced by the warmth and openness of the Punjab’s and as such they are very friendly.  Boasting a good inclination towards study Chandigarh has a brilliant array of educational institutions.  The city hosts a couple of pubs and nightclubs however the nightlife is usually finished by about 10pm, perhaps this is why the people here are so happy, they seem to have a balance in life.
