Bangalore is one of the most welcoming cities in India, and as such you will find that unlike many places many of the people here will be more welcoming of western styles of dress.  Both the western styles and those of India will be found walking the same streets and are more popular with the younger generations.  Nightclubs especially welcome a tidy westernized style of dress.  If, however you want to go to temples and religious places it is still advised to wear modest clothing.  When you go to a home in Bangalore you should always take your shoes off.

Travelling within Bangalore

Auto-rickshaws are a cheap and quick way of getting around here.  Make sure to agree on a price before you go and insist they set the meter before they start the journey to avoid arguments at the end.  The same goes for taxis however they are slightly more expensive than autos.  The bus service is cheap and efficient and comes with the added bonus of the buses having become air conditioned in recent times.
