Coimbatore is located in the foothills of the Nilgiris and surrounded on two sides by monstrous mountains and forests, it is the third largest city in Tamil Nadu.  It is also one of the oldest cities in India having a recorded history that reaches back as far as the second or third century AD.

Located in the Rain Shadow region of the Western Ghats has blessed Coimbatore with a pleasant climate year round, and equally blessed with a rich black soil that makes Coimbatore’s agricultural economy something to be reckoned with.  This is in fact the source of the cotton for the famous Coimbatore textile industry that has seen Coimbatore nicknamed the “Manchester of the south”.

Coimbatore is an interesting spot from a tourism point of view it has a rich flora and fauna aspect to it.  The forests here abound in commercially significant items such as teak, sandalwood, rosewood, and bamboo among other things.

The city of Coimbatore is a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural destination, people here are inclusive of others but still hold true to their cultural roots.  The people of Coimbatore are well known for their hospitality, their friendliness and their honesty.  Many parts of the city have both Hindus and Muslims living in the same quarters, and while this has caused trouble in the past due to becoming targets of crimes, it is not often a problem in this day and age.
