It is surrounded by the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea and hemmed in to the north by the ranges of Vindhya and Satpura. South India is the home of such natural wonders as the Western Ghats, the Kerala backwaters and Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Economy of south India The economy here is dominated by the IT and textile industries and along with tourism have brought south India well into the present climate economically. That isn’t to say that there isn’t still a regime when it comes to wealth however. With a serious amount of people who prescribe to religions where being poor in material wealth enables one to become spiritually rich poverty is a factor that India as a whole will continue to struggle with. South India plays host to many cities thatare world famous for many different reasons, and it has a host of nicknames to reflect this. From Bangalore which is known as the pub city, garden city and silicon valley of India to Coimbatore which is considered the Manchester of the south. Religion and culture in south India Religion in south India is a colorful affair with both Hindu and Muslim having large numbers of followers, what is most surprising about south India is that they co-exist for the most part peacefully. Many places in south India flaunt their religious and cultural heritage in such a way that you know they are incredibly proud of where they come from and what they have achieved. Some of the current temples here are an absolute treat and some of the heritage sights are an absolute must do including Hampi and Mamallapuram the latter of which dates all the way back to the 7th century and has remarkably stunning temples and reliefs carved out of granite. |
