Ganpatipule – Travel to Ganpatipule – Tour to Ganpatipule
Sunset at the beach, Ganpatipule, India

Some of the best vacations are the ones that involve sparkling waters and sandy shores.

That is why a lot of people take vacations in Ganpatipule.  Aside from the majestic temple and the views that can be seen, the place offers sparkling waters, white sand and utter relaxation for every tourist.

History of Ganpatipule

There is more legend than actual fact that surrounds Ganpatipule, but this does not seem to affect the tourism industry.  The village has been around for about four centuries, and it has been housing the idol of Lord Ganesha, carved out of one massive rock.  The legend is that the idol just came out of the sand, and a villager who was running through the jungle just stumbled on the idol.  He started building the temple, and the development just continued until the temple looked like it does today.

Tourism in Ganpatipule

More than just a number of Hindu pilgrims visit Ganpatipule, and not all of them are there for tourism or for the beaches.  The city is home to the Swayambhu Ganpati Temple, which sprawls across the coast.  Pilgrims, devotees and tourists walk around the hill it is on as a sign of respect.  There is a lot to see in this temple, as several shrines have been erected during the temple's existence.

In all honesty though, travel to Ganpatipule is not just about learning about culture.  People come in order to relax and enjoy themselves, and this is exactly what they get to do.  Ganpatipule boasts of one of the cleanest and whitest beaches in India, and sunbathing is always an option when visiting this area.  Some, having a taste for adventure, take on paragliding as the winds are conducive for the sport.

Though tourism is strong in Ganpatipule, shopping is not really strong here.  There are local markets that cater to the needs of the tourists though, and here one can find different souvenirs that can be taken back home as   remembrances or as gifts to friends.

For those who wish to see more than the temple, there are available tours to a nearby fort and lighthouse.  The fort is already in ruins, but the bulwarks are still visible.  Fortifications are seen from the road, but none are facing the ocean.

The lighthouse, on the other hand, is still functioning.  Created in the 1800s, it provides guidance to the passing ships up until this day, and is open for viewing every day except Sunday.

Aside from its historical value, these two sites also offer excellent views of the ocean.  One spectacular view would be that of the river Shastri entering the Arabian sea.

Vacations are meant to be enjoyed.  Enjoyment may come from different things, such as seeing new sights, traveling to other countries as well as doing new things.  In Ganpatipule, all these could be and would be satisfied.
