As large as India may be, no single town may be disregarded, because every single one is of significance.

Jamnagar, a city within a district of the same name, is of considerable significance.  Housing two oil refineries, one of them considered to be among the largest in the world, the city has been referred to as “oil city”.  This replaces the old name “brass city” as its previous source of income was the production of brass goods.

History of Jamnagar

Being a very modern city, Jamnagar has a legend behind it that is considered to be part of its history.  This city was founded in August 1540 by a ruler named Jam Rawal.  He had crossed the gulf upon the advice of the goddess Ashapura in order to establish a new kingdom.  This he did, and he conquered a lot of cities in order to create a strong empire.  During one of his hunting sessions, a hare that they were chasing turned upon the dogs and scared the dogs away.  Believing that the land produced such strong animals, the king decided to set up the capital there so that the men in that city would be just as strong.

Tourism in Jamnagar

Jamnagar is not without its own tourists attractions worth seeing.  One amazing place that should be included as a part of your travel itinerary is Lakhota Fort, located right in an island in the middle of Lakhota Lake.  The building is well maintained, and it houses a small museum that shows relics from the 9^th century to the 18^th century.  The architecture is superb, and the view from the top of the fort is definitely worth seeing.

Animal lovers should definitely add Jamnagar to their travel plans if they decide to tour India.  Close by are two of the unique parks of India, namely the Khijadia Bird Sanctuary and the Marine National Park.  The Khijadia Bird Sanctuary is the breeding ground of several bird species such as the Purple Moorhen and the Great Crested Grebe.  It also houses migratory birds at certain seasons, making this area the perfect place to do ecological research.  As for the Marine National Park, this encompasses several islands that house a lot marine life.  Some parts allow visitors and divers, and a visit here will be a real treat for children.

No city in India would be complete without a temple, and the Bala Hanuman is one of the several temples that one may visit in Jamnagar.  Thousands of devotees travel to this temple on a yearly basis, and the devotion of the people here have earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.  The same mantra has been chanted non-stop within the temple since 1964.

There are a lot of other sites that one may tour in Jamnagar, and each one would have a magnificent feature to offer that would make the travel worthwhile.  The palaces and temples all boast of Indian creativity, and when one would think that he could have seen everything that a temple may have to offer, the next one on the tour would have something new.  There is no end to the wonder that India has to offer.
