The British empire seized this small village from the chogyal or the monarch of the Sikkim kingdom. From 1880, it became a popular holiday getaway for the colonial rulers. It was also included in the route of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, nicknamed the ‘Toy Train’ . Located at Dilaram tea estate on riverbank of Rinchengtong, this is one pleasurable jaunt where visitors can revel in the site’s clear waters and the snowy mountains in the background. Deer Park or also referred as Dow Hill park will charm wildlife lovers with rare glimpses of protected animals prance freely. Forest museum outside the Deer Park allows visitors to know about the inhabitants in the protected forest where visitors’ entry is prohibited for the sake of animals’ protection. Colonial architecture There are still numerous buildings from the British days which allow visitors a peek into the colonial past. Dowhill’s Girls’ School is located among proud pine trees.
